HB Infantry Driver Jeremy Potter doouble winning with Ve8 and D4 at Dave Mapston Memorial Race locat
Reported by Jeremy Potter,
This past weekend (10/25/2009) was the Dave Mapston Memorial Race located in Spokane, WA. I was entered in the 4wd Modified class with the D4 WCE and the 1/8 Electric Buggy class with the Ve8. In 4wd modified I couldn't have asked for a better weekend. My set-up was spot-on and I never had to make any adjustements to the car all weekend. With 3 rounds of qualifying, I went out and set TQ for the first two rounds, locking up TQ for the A-mains. Come main time I felt confident in myself and the car. In the first main the temperature was very cold and despite many of my competitors breaking with britle parts, the D4 ran awesome and I finshed a lap on the field. In the second main, again the car ran amazing and I was able to lay down fast consistent laps taking the win and the overall title in 4wd modified. In 1/8 electric buggy I knew things were going to not be so easy as there was many fast drivers including a Factory Jammin driver, however I felt confident in the Ve8 that I could run with anyone. In qualifying I had three great rounds and took TQ for the A-mains. The A-main events consisted of three 10-mintue races so being smooth and keeping the car together were key. In the first A-main I pulled out to a 10 second lead early on but a lapper wiped that out and it became a two-way battle for the final 4 minutes between the Factory Jammin driver and me. We traded the lead couple times each lap, however he got the last laugh beating me to the line by less then a second. In the second race I knew I had to be smooth and make wise dicesions with lappers. Again I pulled out a 7 second lead early on, but this time I didnt give it away and easily took the win. Now for the third main, this was it! This race would decide who was taking home 1st place. A the start of the race things didnt go as I had planned tho. I went a bit wide in the first sweeper which allowed 2nd place(the Jammin driver) around with that I had to slow down and thats when the rest of the pack gobbled me up. Soon I found myself in 6th or 7th place and the man I was in the title battle with pulling away out front. I didn't get too excitied and started to pick the cars ahead of me off one by one. At about the half way point I had closed the distance to 3 seconds on the leader and closing, it was going to be an exciting finish! Unforunatly for him he had a mechanical issue and had to retire, handing first place to me and allowing me to cruise to victory and the title. The Ve8 was with out a doubt heads above the competiton, everyone that saw the car on the track was blown away how well it looked out there! It felt great to be the only double class winner in the event and show everyone how good the Hot Bodies cars are! |
